Fit Guide

How to measure your dog's neck

Measure once, order once. This short video shows where the tape sits and how much room to leave for a comfortable fit.

Before You Choose

Not sure which width to order?

Width follows weight, not breed. This guide matches your dog's size to the 16mm, 20mm or 25mm collar in under two minutes.

Run a soft tape around the base of the neck, where the collar naturally sits, and add two fingers' width of room. Note that measurement in centimetres at checkout and we cut to it. If you are between sizes we size up, because the leather firms slightly as it is burnished.

Width is about balance rather than strength — every width we make is rated well beyond what any dog can pull. As a guide: 16mm for dogs under 8kg, 20mm for 8–20kg, and 25mm for anything larger or deeper-chested.

It will soften and take your dog's shape over the first few weeks, but vegetable-tanned full-grain does not stretch out the way bonded leather does. Check the fit monthly on a growing puppy.

Very little is needed. Wipe with a barely damp cloth, let it dry away from direct heat, and work in a small amount of neutral leather balm two or three times a year. The patina that develops is the point — resist the urge to polish it away.

A rain-soaked walk or a swim will not harm it. Dry it naturally rather than on a radiator, which is what actually cracks leather. Prolonged saltwater exposure will dull the finish faster, so rinse after a beach day.

Solid brass develops a warm darker tone with handling, which most owners come to prefer. If you want the original brightness back, a soft cloth and a little brass polish restores it in a minute.
